Post-Graduate Diploma Programme
in Design @ National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad.
This is a 2 to 2½ year programme offered in the following
specific areas of specialisation in 15 design disciplines under
the five faculties.
Eligibility criteria for PGDPD
Candidates having a Bachelor's
degree or equivalent (including those who will be appearing
for the qualifying examinations during the academic year 2009-10)
in the areas mentioned against each discipline below are eligible
to apply. Diploma holders from premier specialized institutions
may be considered on par with Bachelor's Degree in certain
cases. Those applying for more than one programme should send
in separate application forms. One cannot apply for more than
two Programmes. Upper age limit for candidates is 27 years
(relaxable by 3 years for SC/ST candidates) as on 1.6.2010.
Candidates with work experience after graduation will be preferred.
Age relaxation upto 3 years for general candidates with relevant
work experience may also be considered.

Admission Procedure
Admission announcements are issued in the leading national
dailies in
the last week of September
every year. Application forms along with the prospectus for
the ensuing academic year will be made available on request
from the second week of October on
payment of Rs.850 (only Rs.450 for SC/ST candidates) by Demand
Draft of any scheduled bank drawn in favour of the National
Institute of Design payable at Ahmedabad. Forms will also
be available at selected branches of Bank of India across
the
country. Forms downloaded from NID's website ( www.nid.edu
) along with required amount of DD drawn in favour of National
Institute of Design payable at Ahmedabad will also be accepted.
The tests at the various centres will consist of design aptitude
tests. Based on scores obtained from these tests, shortlisting
of candidates to be called for second phase will be done.
The second phase of the admission procedure will be studio
tests followed by interviews at Ahmedabad. All those called
for the second phase are required to attend the studio tests
and interview, which completes the process of selection.
The procedures grades and weightage for each year will be
decided
by the Admission Committee for the year.

For both GDPD and PGDPD, the Institute will draw separate
waiting lists with approximately ten percent of the total
number of seats available. Reservation for candidates
As per the Government of
India requirement 15% and 7.5% seats are reserved for Scheduled
Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates. 3% seats are reserved
for persons with disabilities as per the Persons with
Disability Act, 1995 who should submit the eligibility certificate
(certifying the level of disability) from one of the Vocational Rehabilitation
Centre (List of VRCs is placed on our website) and send
the
same along with their application. The qualifying candidates
need to meet the eligibility and admission requirements
of NID.

Total expenditure for studies at NID, including Hostel and
Mess charges, is estimated in the range of Rs.1,10,000
to Rs. 1,25,000 per year at the present level of costs.
There will be marginal increase in costs, which may vary
year to year.
Fee Waivers
and Freeships
A number of
full and partial tuition fee waiver offered by NID and
Ford
Foundation are
available to the deserving and disadvantaged candidates.
There are some additional support offered by the Ford
Foundation to meet the Hostel/Mess expenses of candidates
from disadvantaged
sections of the society.
Overseas Candidates
Overseas candidates
applying for admission into Graduate Diploma
Programme in Design should
send in
their application along with other applicants in
India by the stipulated date . Such student may attend
admission
test
in India at one of the test centers and if short-listed
can attend the interviews at Ahmedabad.
Exclusively for the specialized PG programmes an
additional 10 % seats (not more than two in any discipline)
may
be offered to Foreign Nationals (citizens of all
countries) and to the
persons of Indian origin. Such candidates should
fill in
the prescribed application form and send the same
with their port-folio to NID on or before specified
date
. Their selection
will be processed through a separate selection procedure. |
